Stolen Car Returned After 21 Years
It was a big surprise for a woman in Johannesburg when police told her that her car, which got stolen 21 years ago, had been found.
Merna Meyer couldn't believe her eyes when she eventually got to the Newcastle Police Pound and saw her Ford Laser.She said,
"I recognized the sporty look, red and green stripes on the sides and tow bar. Even the colour is the same beige"Warrants officers, Gary Holmes and Derick Pulter of the Newcastle car theft spent months trying to find her because the car was registered in her maiden name, Pretorious.
Meyer was in her 20's when the car was stolen in Melville in 1996 outside a friend's house. After reporting the car missing, Meyer said she never heard from the police again.
The Newcastle police became suspicious when the alleged owner came to the police in 2016 to get a vehicle clearance certificate. They noticed the car had a false serial number.
However, no arrests have been made yet.
